The Verdict
Worth it for your honeymoon?
Belmond La Residencia in the village of Deià is the original and definitive romantic Mallorca hotel — two 16th and 17th-century manor houses set in the most beautiful village in the Tramuntana mountains, surrounded by terraced olive groves and fragrant gardens overlooking the sea. The hotel's connection to the Deià art colony (Robert Graves lived here; Richard Branson honeymooned here), multiple pools set into the hillside gardens, and Belmond's signature refinement make it the most classically romantic hotel in Spain.

Room Recommendation
Which room to book
The Son Fony Suite is La Residencia's most celebrated accommodation — a spacious manor house suite with antique Mallorcan furniture, hand-painted ceramic tiles, a private terrace overlooking the olive groves and sea, and original architectural details that no modern hotel can replicate. Garden Suites with private terraces and mountain views are excellent for couples who want a step up from the Deluxe Rooms without the full suite premium.

Day by Day
Your 7-night honeymoon itinerary
Arrival in Deià
Transfer from Palma Airport (45 minutes along the spectacular cliff-edge Ma-10 coastal road) to Belmond La Residencia in Deià. The village of Deià — steep terraced lanes of golden stone houses with bougainvillea cascading over doorways — is one of the most beautiful places in the Mediterranean. Check in, explore the village on foot, and dine at El Olivo, the hotel's acclaimed fine dining restaurant.
Deià Village & Robert Graves
The village of Deià has been home to writers, artists, and musicians for over a century, drawn by its extraordinary light and beauty. Visit the Robert Graves Museum (Casa Postelina), the 13th-century parish church where Graves is buried, and the galleries of local contemporary artists. La Residencia's art collection of Spanish contemporary works continues in the hotel corridors.
Pools & Gardens
La Residencia has three pools set into terraced hillside gardens at different levels — the upper olive grove pool has the most expansive views, the main terrace pool is the social heart, and the spa pool is for pure relaxation. Spend the day moving between pools and lounging in fragrant gardens. Evening: the hotel's Es Clot Bar for pre-dinner cocktails and one of Mallorca's best sunsets.
Tramuntana Hiking
Deià sits at the gateway to some of the finest walking in the UNESCO Tramuntana mountains. The Camí Vell de Valldemossa (old pilgrim's road) and the track down to Cala de Deià (a rocky cove accessible only on foot) are both exceptional half-day walks from the hotel gates. Cala de Deià's turquoise water is worth the 30-minute descent.
Soller & Vintage Train
The vintage wooden train from Palma to Soller (running since 1912) is one of Spain's most atmospheric railway journeys, crossing the Tramuntana mountains through 13 tunnels and over a viaduct with extraordinary mountain views. From Soller, the electric tram descends to the harbor. Return to Deià via the spectacular cliff road.
La Residencia Spa
The Belmond Spa at La Residencia is built into a former olive press — the original wooden press mechanism still stands in the main treatment room as a sculptural centerpiece. Book the Mallorcan Indulgence couple's treatment, which uses local almond oil, rosemary, and olive extracts. Spa day, then a private dinner on your suite terrace.
Final Olive Grove Morning
Breakfast on your terrace overlooking the olive groves one last time before the transfer back to Palma. Many couples find themselves lingering over this final Mallorcan morning — the combination of mountain air, ancient trees, and birdsong is difficult to leave behind.
Honest Assessment
What to know before you book
Deià is a village in the mountains — there is no beach at the hotel. The rocky cove of Cala de Deià is a 30-minute walk away, and Palma's sandy beaches require a 45-minute drive. This is a mountain and culture hotel, not a beach resort.
The mountain road to Deià (Ma-10) is one of Mallorca's most dramatic but also one of its most challenging to drive — narrow, winding, and with steep drops. The hotel driver service is strongly recommended.
La Residencia is open from April to October only, with a winter closure. Always verify dates when booking for shoulder season travel.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is Belmond La Residencia good for honeymooners?
It is the most classically romantic hotel in Spain — the Deià setting, Mallorcan manor house architecture, art colony history, and Belmond's signature service combine to create an incomparable honeymoon atmosphere. Couples who love culture, landscape, and refined luxury consistently rate it as one of Europe's finest honeymoon experiences.
What is the best time to visit?
May through June and September through October for ideal temperatures (20–26°C), full bloom gardens, and fewer crowds than peak summer. July and August are beautiful but busy and very warm. The hotel closes for winter.
How far in advance should you book?
Book 4–6 months ahead for peak season (June–September). The Son Fony Suite and Garden Suites sell out earliest. La Residencia has 71 rooms across the two manor houses, so more availability than Mallorca's smaller boutique properties.
Is La Residencia adults-only?
No, families are welcome. However, the village setting and art/culture orientation create a naturally adult atmosphere. Young children would find it less engaging than a beach resort.
What is the best room type?
The Son Fony Suite for the finest Mallorcan manor house experience — antique furnishings, private terrace, sea and olive grove views. Garden Suites are excellent value at a slightly lower price point. All rooms feature authentic Mallorcan architectural details that no modern hotel can match.
How do you get to Belmond La Residencia?
Fly into Palma (PMI) and take a private transfer along the spectacular cliff coast road (Ma-10) to Deià — about 45 minutes. The hotel arranges transfers and the house driver service is available throughout your stay for exploring the area.
